Sponsor a child
The Kailash Hostel is a living project and, therefore, constantly seeking sources of funding, so it remains permanently open a campaign to find sponsors. The project Kailash Hostel sponsors 92 children to whom they subsidize private school in Kathmandu.
HCF provides, at the end of every school term, an evaluation report on the development, progression and overall development of each child.
The sponsorship fee is US$1,600 per year. That amount covers the initial costs of transportation to Kathmandu, the school fees, the accommodation during the school period and during the holidays, the school supplies and the care and maintenance of a whole year.
It is necessary that the sponsor agrees to assume the elementary and secondary education of the child (6 years renewable). If for some reason a sponsorship was interrupted, MHF is committed to find another sponsor for the child or, if unable to find one, to finance the remaining education of the child.
Depending on when a child starts school, the period of sponsorship can last up to 13 years: preschool (3 years) and primary school (grades I to X).
After grade X, the children must pass the SLC exam (School Leaving Certificate) and pass it in order to move to high school (grades XI and XII).
Once on grade XII, HCF ceases to be responsible for the children. If they wish to go to university or to vocational school, they must apply in person to their sponsors and ask them if they want to continue helping in the finance of their studies. Its association with HCF is over, but HCF keeps guiding and helping them in their process of independence.
In 2009, the first child of Kailash Hostel started university. Ang Kami Lama combines his studies with a part time job as a tutor for the children in the Kailash Hostel.
The operation of the Kailash Hostel is funded entirely with the contributions from sponsors. Therefore, MHF has as first and foremost priority the diffusion of the project in order to find as many sponsors as possible for the children of the Himalayas.
