Manel de la Matta
Manel de la Matta was in at the planning and the development of MfH until the day that he left us, the 16th of August 2004, in the Negrotto Neck, in the edge called The Magic Line of the K2. He was going back to the base camp after one of the members of the Catalan expedition reached the summit of this mountain by its more difficult route.
Climber of exceptional talent, Manel enjoyed the collective success with the same enthusiasm that he approached his personal ones. The capacity for commitment to others, along with his solidarity, his methodical ways, his obliviousness to the opinions of others, his flexibility in its expositions and an extreme determination in his belifs.
As extremely knowledgeable, but also with constant interest in the field education, Manel shared and inspired the spirit of MfH of giving back to the Himalayas what they have given us, in the form of direct transfer of funds dedicated to give to these children a better basic education.
Its status as an educator, a man tied to the world of education and pedagogy, as well as his strong convictions and a supportive capacity to understand the world from this perspective, conferred him a serene authority on us that is impossible to replace.
We have all lost a member of the family, a friend. We've lost a great climber and a great person, but also a man who, with his participation in MfH, showed a great sensitivity towards those less fortunate and a discrete skill to take action with the determination of his kind personality but also with the strength of his convictions.
